Phyllis is a principal of the firm, which she founded in 1996 under the firm’s prior name, Jewell & Associates. She is a member of the California State Bar and a Certified Specialist in Immigration & Nationality Law (State Bar of California Board of Legal Specialization); is peer-review rated AV® Preeminent™ by Martindale-Hubbell; is named among Who’s Who Legal’s experts in corporate immigration law; and, since 2004, has been among the five percent of lawyers in Northern California selected each year as Northern California Super Lawyers®. Her professional affiliations include the American Immigration Lawyers Association (elected officer in Northern California Chapter 1992-1996; member of Chapter Executive Committee 1991-1997; member of national committees 1992-1993) and the Bar Association of San Francisco (Barristers Immigration Committee Co-Chair, Vice-Chair and Chair 1989-1991). She has also served as a volunteer attorney for ProBAR, a national joint project of the American Bar Association, the State Bar of Texas, and AILA to provide pro bono legal services to asylum seekers detained in South Texas by the United States government.
Since she began her career in immigration law in 1985, Phyllis has practiced in all areas of U.S. immigration law, and has developed a particular focus on the representation of foreign nationals and their employers in the full range of employment-related U.S. immigration matters. In addition to handling nonimmigrant and immigrant visa cases, she provides counsel on organizational immigration compliance, policy development, export controls, and global migration. Phyllis currently serves as the firm’s Managing Attorney.
